Used and New Computers: Their Main Cisco Hardware Components

Used and New Computers: Their Main Cisco Hardware Components

Computers in the corporate scene are used for organizing files, efficient communication and accessing the Internet for various reasons. With the technology continuously evolving to greater heights, computers are upgrading to newer versions to accommodate different functions. Standards have been set and quality is constantly monitored through certifications; for instance, opting for used Cisco hardware ensures quality functions and cost efficiency to any company. To maximize the computer?s performance, a better understanding on a computer?s main hardware components is given below.

The Motherboard This is one of the most important components of a computer. The motherboard functions as the central printed circuit board (PCB) and provides connections to the other components.

Microprocessors, main memory, and external storage, controllers and peripheral devices are attached to the motherboard. Many manufacturers are now developing motherboards that can fully support a full range of video, sound, storage and networking function while maintaining the computer at high performance.

The Central Processing Unit (CPU) This component of the computer is responsible for the instructions of the computer program to perform basic logical, arithmetical and input/output function of the system. Its primary function is to send out commands to other components of the computer. The CPU must be compatible with the motherboard?s pin configuration.

The Random-access memory (RAM) Chip The computer?s RAM determines how it can run smoothly and efficiently handle programs all at the same time.

It is a form of computer data storage and is divided into two types: the static RAM (SRAM) and the dynamic RAM (DRAM). Basically, the higher the RAM, the better the performance of the computer will be. Most computer users are advised to buy a computer with at least 1-GB -4GB of RAM.

The Power Supply For any brand new or used Cisco equipment, this component supplies direct current to the other components in the computer. Most of the power supplies in modern computers conform to the ATX form factor, meaning they are automatically turned on/off by a signal from the motherboard. Aside from that, it can also detect if the DC lines are connected properly so the computer will be able to boot up. A computer?s power supply can be rated base on its maximum output power. A typical personal computer at home can have a power range of 300 watts to 500 watts which can sufficiently support web-searching, burning and playing DVDs.

?The Hard Drive This saves data that can be downloaded or installed from the Internet or other sources. Users are advised to select a hard drive with at least 120 GB. The hard drive must also be compatible with the pin configuration of the motherboard; this applies to any brand new or used Cisco hardware.
